What inspired me to become a fertility physician

Hello:

I have been practicing fertility medicine and helping individuals and couples build families for about 15 years now. I am from NYC. I did my undergrad at Columbia university and  earned my medical degree at New York University. For a few years during my schooling I also taught math and science in NYC public schools. And one thing you should know about me is that I like to teach. I think its crucial to make sure that my patients are educated and they understand their diagnoses and their treatments because I think people get the best outcomes when they are active participants in their care. I think I get this passion for teaching from my early days of being a middle school teacher. I then went to University of Pennsylvania for general obgyn residency and stayed at Penn for my subspecialty fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

What led me to obgyn in the first place as a general field is that I am passionate about women’s health and fascinated by human reproduction and reproductive health. I am a feminist and am passionate about women receiving the best care possible. I love surgery and medicine and since im passionate about women’s health having it all combined in obgyn seemed like an obvious choice  for me. Once I was in residency I fell even more in love with the field of human reproductive biology and physiology. It is just such an incredible miracle  and reproductive endocrinology is such an amazing symphony of different parts of the body communicating with one another to allow for human reproduction to take place. To think about it and grapple with it every day in a way to help people build families just seemed like the obvious choice for me and just a real dream job. And over a decade later I know that I was right in making that decision. It’s a dream job for all of those reason.

I’ve been practicing in LA now for about 10 years and I just absolutely love this city and although you really cant take the NY out of the girl (hence my sometimes too blunt and less filtered personality) I consider myself a true Angelino through and through and I couldn’t be happier to be here and raise my family here and help others build their families here as well.

One thing you should know about me is that a few years ago while in practice I too struggled with my own infertility and had to do multiple treatment cycles. Luckily I had all of my 3 children thanks to IVF. This experience is very personal to me as a parent and as a practitioner. I’ve been there so I know what a roller coaster ride it can be.

Patients deserve honest, compassionate, and individualized care. it’s the commitment I make to every patient. I want to be the best fertility doctor that I can be, and I’m proud that people have experienced so many exceptional outcomes under my care. I’m so grateful to this field because it gave me my own family. To me, this is the best job in the world. Spending my days helping families grow is a true honor.
